The simplistic geometry of the Citibank building epitomises its international architectural vocabulary. It is located in the flourishing International Finance and Business District of the Bandra Kurla Complex. The exceptionally linear profile of the site dictated the conceptualisation of the basic built form. The overall form is a composition of two rectangular blocks that integrate to form a “T” shaped profile. A large plaza forms the head of the “T” and functions as the entrance lobby to the office spaces and is enclosed with glass and granite. This 3-storey high plaza creates a sense of openness due to the extensive use of clear glass. Further, the plaza scales down the enormity of the structure and connects to the street level. The longer end of the “T” houses the offices, the rectangular grid of the office blocks has recesses on the highest level. These alcoves bring down the severe solidity of the block. The staff cafeteria is located on the 3rd floor and the 7th floor houses the terrace garden and conference facilities. The services of the building are uncomplicated and conform to global practices. The interior spaces are in tune with the international modular standard systems and furniture used in Citibank’s premises worldwide. The building is an RCC framed structure clad with grey granite. The subtle combination of grey granite stones, lucid glass glazing and metallic cladding with their clean lines verbalise the contemporary architectural inclination and add to the severe simplicity of the building.
