Set in an idyllic locale on the outskirts of Chandigarh, the building’s programme includes a software development centre, a food court and the employee care centre. The architecture with its dynamic geometry epitomises the company’s global position and the translucent manifestation of the built form reflects the company’s stand of transparency in their operations. The two software development centres with their characteristic open plan have a massive linear disposition. Each of these blocks houses 3,000 professionals. The central atrium featured in these blocks rises up to 4-storey height and culminates with a massive skylight. It connects the two software blocks with bridges. The two smaller atriums house the entrance, lift lobby and staircases.
The external manifestation of the software development block is evocative of a linear saucer. The structure inclines itself outwardly consequently becoming wider on the higher levels. The roof of the elliptical shaped structure curves itself like a saucer. Infosys also acknowledges that the greatest asset of a knowledge based organisation like theirs is human resource. Therefore, to nurture their intellectual capital, they are always consciously trying to offer their employees an invigorating work place. The employee care centre is a part of that endeavour. It is adjacent to the software development block and houses the food court on the higher level. The food court block that can host 1,600 people at any point in time follows the modernist vocabulary of the campus. The inverted saucer like roof of the food court has a bubble-like skylight.
