Located in the arid expanse of Ahmednagar, the Damania Residence is one of AHC’s earlier projects, completed in 1996. Spanning 12,000 sq. ft., the house is constructed in locally quarried stone and follows a strong axial geometry.
Set centrally within a large site, the residence is approached via a delicately curving driveway that leads to a formal entrance porch. A short flight of steps leads into a square vestibule topped with a domical roof, which connects to the living spaces on one side and the kitchen and dining areas on the other. The living room sits at the centre of the composition—functionally and symbolically—anchored by a skylight that enhances its volume.
The architectural language is defined by the use of locally quarried stone for the external walls and partly barrel-vaulted roofs over the bedrooms, kitchen, and dining areas. A free-form swimming pool nestled between bedroom wings softens the rigid geometry of the built form, integrating the structure with the surrounding landscape.
Interior spaces reflect a refined Art Deco influence. Velvet chairs, green-stained wood panelling, and a custom bar in the living room infuse the home with warmth and character. Teak wood flooring, antique units, and a carefully composed palette of marble inlays further enhance the interiors. The layout, detailing, and materials work together to evoke a timeless sensibility while responding to the context, climate, and lifestyle of its occupants.
