Peregrine Tower

The design inspiration for this rather queer but captivating residential building came from Batman - yes, the bizarre and strange realm of Gotham city. The design reflects the architect’s fascination with the unusual. Set in the heart of Mumbai, the amalgamation of forms and elements creates an unconventional aesthetic expression. The outlandish imagery especially comes alive in the night when the building is lit, revealing semblances of enigmatic profiles often seen in the bizarre, fantastical movie. The entire vertical phase of the building is cut by three-dimensional triangular elements that add to its mystical aura. Ultimately, the building’s aesthetic managed to transcend all conventional notions of style previously known to the city. The elongated site posed several constraints. It had a factory on one side and a dilapidated chawl on the other edge. This setting demanded the apartments to be placed high above, to eliminate disturbances from the surroundings and to establish better vistas. The building as a result is a 22-storey superstructure, which rises above a podium. The terrace of the podium houses the swimming pool and health club facilities. From the 2nd to the 8th-storey, each floor has three 2-bedroom apartments. Starting from the 9th till 12th-level, each floor has two 3-bedroom apartments. The 21st and 22nd-storeys house duplex penthouses. The building tower is setback so that a certain amount of frontage is allowed, while the podium covers almost the entire site.
